27May20 - God Bless the Broken Road That Lead Me Straight to You

"To be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid."

Francis Erwin Trinidad was my Ate Yan-yan's high school friend and classmate in St. Mary's Academy. They were 2 levels ahead of me and Boki.
Ogie, as we know him, became our boardmate in Kundiman St.
It was late 1999 or early 2000 (as far as I could remember) when he moved to the boarding house.
Ogie became friends with the boys - Boki, Kuya Vic and Baluran.
At that time, Boki and I were not yet a thing. We barely talk in the boarding house as I feel it is awkward and our boardmates always tease us.
During that time, I was introduced to Ogie through Ate Yan-yan.
Eventually, Ate Yan-yan developed feelings with Ogie but he didn't reciprocate it.
Apparently, I found out that Ogie wanted to pursue me. I remembered that time, Ate Yan-yan told me that she'd be happier if Ogie and I end-up together instead of seeing him with another girl. I couldn't say no to Ate Yan-yan as she was my closest cousin and I don't want her to be upset.
I was only 16 years old at that time and I agreed with Ogie to give it a try.
Ogie being my first fling, I don't feel that butterfly in my tummy like the way I feel for Boki when we were in highschool. Or when our friends are teasing me and Boki.
During our fling period, I am proud to say that we only held hands, Ogie did kiss my forehead and nothing else. But then again, there were no spark or fireworks.
The fling lasted for less than 1 year.
It was really messy and unhealthy period. To begin with, Mama is not very fond of Ogie's family. Their family are known in our place to be "matapobre" rooting from the time when Tatay Omeng was a hired labourer of Ogie's family. Tatay Omeng didn't receive any payment from them after working in the drainage and even heard negative words from Ogie's father.
There was also an incident that Mama found out that Ate Yan-yan and I were hanging out in Ogie's house. She went to Ogie's gate and furiously picked us up from his house. Mama was really upset and I think that's the beginning of our fling going downhill.
Furthermore, there was also an incident on Nov. 1, 2000 when I saw Ogie and a girl (I think she was his wife now) riding the car together to go out of Gateway to Heaven. I am definitely sure that Ogie saw me because after that incident, he called me (using PLDT landline) to apologize. Ogie asked me to be angry at him, to slap his face...but to be honest, I felt nothing. It was the most liberating feeling I had and I felt that it was more of a blessing in disguise as our fling officially ended. After that incident, we didn't talk anymore. Though there was an instance when Boki told me a story when we were newly bf/gf.
Ogie passed by him on an "isawan" near our boarding house. Ogie confirmed with Boki if we were officially together. After Boki confirmed that we are in a relationship, Ogie just left without saying anything to Boki.

I'm telling the story because Ogie sent a friend request to me and apparently to Boki this morning. After decades of no connection, he reached out.
Boki called me in the middle of the day telling me about their conversation.
Boki said Ogie congratulated him because we ended up together.
I sneaked into Boki's phone and took the liberty of checking their convos:

I responded to Ogie's friend request and exchanged regards to him.

I thank God because I never experienced heartbreaking and messy relationships.
God gave me Boki to take care of me, to protect me and to love me with the best love I deserve.
And this is the biggest "thank you" I want to say to Papa God.
