My 1st Surgery - 13Aug23

My Laparoscopy Journey

Instructions from Dr. Mohammed Ellaithy

12Aug23

> I met Dr. Zofia, anaesthesiologist from Poland. She is a lovely lady. She previously worked in Corniche Hospital, and have been in UAE for 14 years. She said her hometown is the same as Pope John Paul.

> Night and morning before the surgery, I have to shower and use this sponge with antiseptic soap from neck down.

> Fasting at least 8 hours before the surgery and only sip of water

13Aug23

Surgery Day

> I was in admission office before 8 AM but since they are understaffed, we were able to get in the room at around 8:30 AM.

> I changed my dress and wore medical stockings

Tita Lolit and Boki even made fun of my baby fats 😜😅

> I was taken to the operation theater at 10:30 AM and I was back in my room 307 at 3:15 PM
> It was hard for the doctor and nurse to locate my vein as they were tiny.
Dr. Zofia kept on talking to me to make me feel comfortable. She asked me where do I want to travel, since I know that she is from Poland, I told her I want to go to Poland. She asked me what food shall I eat. I told her I would eat cheese and wine. So she jokingly told Dr. Ellaithy that I am naughty girl. Then for the main course, she asked me what shall I have. I told her I would like steak and broccoli on the side. She even told me that broccoli was her daughter's favorite veggie.
The last memory I had before the anesthesia kicks in was Dr. Zofia holding my right hand and rubbing it. Her hand feels nice and warm.
> After they woke me up from the surgery, I can hear the patient from the other room that she is in pain, she was crying and she wants to go home.
> When I returned in my room, Boki was waiting for me. He said that he was nervous and he kept on asking the nurses how long is my surgery going to last.
I am thankful that Boki was there as it was not easy not having your family around during medical emergencies, especially if you are not in the Philippines.

> I felt sore, my tummy was swollen and felt like there is pressure in my abdomen. I also have catheter, another first, which I am not a big fan of. It is uncomfortable and painful.

I am also too weak and sleepy, I didn't feel the hunger even though I haven't eaten anything since yesterday.

This was my 1st hospital food: clear soup, water and apple juice.

> Dr. Ellaithy came to see me at 5 PM

> My morning nurse is Kat who looks like Gigi De Lana and evening nurse is Ria who is from Zamboanga. I can feel that Ria is more accommodating, maybe because she is in UAE for 1 year only compared to Kat who is in UAE for 10 years.

14Aug23

> I passed gas today but I did not poop. Doctor gave me suppository. It is imperative that my bowel movement is back to normal. I was also advised to walk and move my legs to keep the blood flowing.

> Dr. Ellaithy didn't come to do his rounds. I came to know from Dr. Nabeela that his father passed away so he has taken a emergency leave.

> My foods are improving

> I finally finished reading my book: Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom

> Deonne and Amay visited me in the evening

15Aug23

> I clear for discharge.
So blessed as the insurance covered everything.
> We went straight home and rested.

16Aug23
> First bath, I was told that dressings are waterproof but I have to be extra careful that no moisture or water in the incisions.
Felt like my tummy is still swollen, or maybe I had too much rice in the hospital 😁

17Aug23
> I didn't take a bath since I never leave the house, and to avoid also any liquid penetrating my incisions.
> I have light spotting and some fibroids when I pee.
> All in all I was feeling better, sometimes a bit painful when I pee.
> I have spoken with Nurse Daisy and she told me that I can remove the dressings especially if I feel that there is moist inside.

18Aug23
> 2nd bath, I removed the dressing on the navel. A bit scared because the thread is poking out. The navel is dry and not painful

> I still have light spotting and fibroids when I pee

19Aug23
> Stayed at home the whole day, decided not to bathe this time

20Aug23
> 3rd bath after surgery. I have removed the 2 other dressings.
I was surprised to see that there are 2 strings on each sites.
> I finished my antibiotic

21Aug23
> Back to work. I decided not to go with Boki as my backpack is too heavy and the walking distance is quite far.
> 4th bath after surgery, evening bath

22Aug23
> I finished the anti-inflammatory meds in the morning
> Follow-up check-up with Dr. Ellaithy
> Nurse Daisy used alcohol and pull out the strings from stitches like taking out hairs

> Dr. Ellaithy confirmed that biopsy turned out great. He also showed photos of the myoma and fibroids taken during the surgery.
